Diabetes becoming more and more expensive

There was an article in the New York Times that talked about in spite of all the new drugs on the market, some of the older drugs were better for treating diabetes both cost wise and side-effect wise.   According to the article, the CDC says that 1 in 10 Americans has Type 2 diabetes and that number is expected to increase to 1 in 3 by the year 2050.  The article went on to state that Type 2 diabetes patients spent $12.5 billion on medicine in 2007, twice as much as 2001 (not including what they also spent on blood pressure and cholesterol medicine).

The article did not address how much of that that was attributable to increased numbers of victims and how much to increased costs of medicines.  There has been a 10% increase in cases since 2007(see my post of 2/2/11).  The thrust of the article was that as newer medicines come on the market, they are not less expensive than current drugs, as hoped.  Rather, the new are more expensive with more side effects while the existing drugs are becoming cheaper because they are more and more getting classified as generics.

What the article overlooks is there is an alternative to this increase in numbers of people affected.  Eat foods that are more healthy for you, eat foods that will strengthen your pancreas so that it functions properly, eat foods that help you lose weight and keep it off, and get more exercise.  To learn you can avoid becoming a part of this three-fold increase in this disease go to www.healthangelsnutrition.com
